Birch Green is a village within the parish of Hertingfordbury, Birch Green is also the name of the road leading from The Old Coach Road to the junction with Chapel Road, Letty Green and Pipers End. Birch Green has a school, Hertingfordbury Cowper Primary (VA) CofE School

Within the village is an extensive area of grass designated as Village Green, which extends either side of The Old Coach Road and along both sides of the Birch Green.

Birch Green hosts the war memorial which lists local soldiers who gave their lives in two world wars.

The northern part of the green includes ancient pond.

To the south of the village lies Maitland Wood, a new wood planted in 1990 and owned and managed by the parish council.
